Sheryl Sul Hwangbo

Korean born violinist Sheryl Sul Hwangbo is an active soloist, chamber and orchestral musician. Sheryl recently won the Juilliard Concerto Competition and performed the Mozart Sinfonia Concertante with violist Izia Weyman at Alice Tully Hall with conductor Xian Zhang and the Juilliard Orchestra. Sheryl's recent New York performances have taken place in Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall, and Alice Tully Hall.
In the summer of 2010, Sheryl attended the Verbier Festival in Switzerland and has worked with Charles Dutoit, Rafael Frühbeck De Burgos, Valery Gergiev, and Daniel Harding. In past summers, Sheryl has attended the Pacific Music Festival in Japan, Spoleto USA, and the Aspen Music Festival. She has worked with conductors such as James Conlon, James DePreist, Fabio Luisi, Michael Tilson Thomas, and David Zinman, among many others. During her undergraduate study, Sheryl was a member of Akron Symphony Orchestra. Since entering the Juilliard School, Sheryl has served as a concertmaster of the Juilliard Orchestra.
Passionate about chamber music, Sheryl has participated in the Intensive Quartet Seminar, ChamberFest, Axiom, and is a member of the Carnegie Ensemble and the Ensemble FIRE (Future In REverse). She has studied and participated in masterclasses with many influential musicians, including the members of the Cleveland Quartet, the Juilliard Quartet, the Guarneri Quartet, the Takács Quartet, the Tokyo Quartet, the Cavani Quartet, the Orion Quartet, the Boromeo Quartet, the Pacifica Quartet, Toby Appel, Richard Aaron, Masao Kawasaki, Charles Neidich, and Sylvia Rosenberg, to name a few.
Prizewinner of various competitions in the Midwest, Sheryl made solo appearances with the Andrews University Orchestra and South Bend Symphony Orchestra. She is a recipient of the Virtu Foundation Scholarship, the Aspen Music Festival Fellowship, and has been awarded the C.V. Starr Scholarship and the Irene Diamond Graduate Fellowship at the Juilliard School.
Sheryl received her Bachelor of Music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music studying with Paul Kantor. She is currently pursuing her Master of Music degree at the Juilliard School studying with Ronald Copes.
